Task 6: Carol Vernalis's theory

Carol Vernalis main thoughts are that in music videos the editing and camera work is different compared to films and also genders and in general:

1. Using  Base Tracks which is shown frequently throughout the video, this gives a layout to the video. Also the shooting is taken in one place and there are usually more than one base tracks.
2. Many jump cuts are used.
3. Because it is a music video the camera will move in time with the rhythm
4. Loads of edits are used in music videos to grab the audiences eye

The camera work in dizzie rascal's Holiday music video focus's on the women's body parts rather than the person it self, here this represents the women as a sexual object. also the women are usually wearing bikinis. On the other hand the camera work focused on men is usually on their face and they tend to have many women around them/

Task 19: Examine artist website

The artists website is one of the most important factors in determining the success of an artist because it is the place where the fans get to see the real artist for who they are, this means that it i really important that you represent the artist in the right way because if you don't then it will mean that the fans wont feel the connection that makes them want to go out and spend their hard earned money on the artists products.

The artist website is also a way to sell there products to the fans,f or example if we look at the official website for Emile Sande one of the first things that you see is a lust of her latst album  there are also reviews from well known newspapers, these are all there to influence the choice of the fans and to ensure that as many people buy the products as possible, all to maximize sales.

The website also has to appeal to a certain audiance, for example Emile Sande knows that her fan base mainly consists of females, for that reason the websites colour scheme is mainly pink and purple to appeal to the fan base, this is just another way that the artist connects with the fans, because if there is not a connection then there is not much of a reason that the people out there should spend there money and buy there products.

Task 18: Analysis of 3 music videos

The script (for the first time)

I have chosen to analyse this music video by the script because it tells a story all throughout and i really like the way that it links the narrator to the actual story, In my own music video we will try and do something similar where we will tell a story by using flashbacks or cut a ways of possibly a couple breaking up. I think that the best music videos are the ones that tell a story because most people out there can relate to it and feel some kind of connection because everyone goes through that bad break up at one point in their lives.

I have chosen to analyse this music video because it has a clear and distinct storyline and in our own music video we will be trying to do something similar, the best thing about this video to me is that it is not just a singer in a studio with a few lights, it is almost like a short film where she is looking back into the past where she let a previous love get away. There is also a lot of emotion in this video which i great because it is a sensitive topic and it is one that a lot of people out there will be able to relate to. In terms of props there were not really that many used and this is because you don't really need masses of props in this style of music so we will keep that in mind when we make our own video.

The reason that I have chosen to examine this music video by beyonce is because again there is a lot of raw emotion and passion that she puts into not just this music video but into all of her videos and i think if we manage to echo this effect and really create a feeling then we will end up with a really good music video, Also in this video there are a number of cut a ways of which tell the story, now i think all the good music videos out there tell a really good strong story so in our video we will try and do something similar and link it in with our song.

Task 17: Analysis of original video

 

 

You can see above the video by Emile Sande of her single "Read all about it" we chose this song specifically because it has heart and soul and as soon as you hear the song, you get a sense of the mood that the artist is in, and you have a sense of what the artist is going through. The very first time that i listened to this song i invisioned a cou ple whose relationship was slowly breaking down where it eventually led up to the climax where the female stood up for herself and found the courage to leave the man out of fear.

 

I really like this particular music video because it has a lot of heart in it and you can really feel every word of the song, I also really like the way that the male and female parts collide together as if they are having some sort of argument, I really like the way that the camera moves as well in time with the beat to make the video look more professional and just make it look better. There is also a good variation of camera shots i this particular music video which i think is really good and it has given me some ideas into what kind of shots i want to use in my music video.

 

In terms of location i think the whole music video has been shot in a studio which is appropriate for this type of genre, we dont want our video to look like this so for the majority of the shots we will be out in london shooting in locations such as london bridge or up at westminster, the reason i feel that this would be an appropriate setting is because it is a sad song and we want good scenery in the background to match with it, when it comes to the post production of the music video i feel that this music video may look even more professional in black and white.

Task 15: Final Song Choice

Final Song Choice

The final song that we have chosen as a group to do is 'Emeli Sande - Read all about it'.

We have chosen this song as we believe we could remake a video quite extroadinary and relevant. As the lyrics of the song is really calm and slow. We believe it will be really easy to learn the lyrics and lipsync it quite well. We also instantly had ideas of how the video would look. As the song is of the 'Soul Genre' we would not need many base tracks, however the basetracks we do include will be all very powerfull.
