Examining Artist Website

Examining Artist Website

Emeli Sande

 (Link to Official Website Above)

Above is the intro page of our chosen Artist Emeli Sande. As you can see the website is is almost in half with her being portrayed with a smile and information on the other. I think the effect of having just her head looking towards the video smiling is really good. It gives the impression of the mood Emeli Sande is in as being happy whilst making her songs.

On the website the 'About Emeli Sande' link takes you to the page (shown above) and tells you all the basics about her. However the information is in second person almost making the person reading feel as if they are Emeli Sande. I think this is really exciting as it gives you a true feeling of the artists. Almost gives the feeling if you really are standing in her shoes.

Once you enter the main site. The latest music is played and this gives you an insight of what is new. On the top right hand corner, there are links to various social networking sites e.g Facebook and Twitter. This is that you can get more information on the artist and also helps the artist get a wider audience. Once you click on the link 'Releases' this shows you what is to come and gives you something to almost wait for. Again the website is mainly about her music and less about her as a person. Pictures and videos are also shown on the site, so there is a lot of multimedia.

Our Song Lyrics

I really like the lyrics and tone of our song choice. The lyrics are simple and slow and would be nice and clear to lip sync.

You've got the words to change a nation but you're biting your tongue You've spent a lifetime stuck in silence afraid you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song So come on,
 come on Come on,
You've got a heart as loud as lions so why let your voice be tamed
Maybe were a little different there's no need to be ashamed
You've got the light to fight the shadows so stop hiding it away
Come on, come on I wanna sing I wanna shout I wanna scream til the words dry out
So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid
They can read all about it
Read all about it oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
At night we waking up the neighbours while we sing away the blues
Making sure we are remembered cos we all matter too
If the truth has been forbidden then were breaking all the rules
So come on, come on Come on, come on
Lets get the TV and the radio to play our tune again
Its 'bout time we got some air play of our version of events
There's no need to be afraid I will sing with you my friend
Come on, come on I wanna sing I wanna shout I wanna scream til the words dry out
So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid
They can read all about it
Read all about it
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Yeah we all wonderful, wonderful people So when did we all get so fearful
Now were finally finging out voices
So take a chance, some help me sing this (x2)
I wanna sing I wanna shout I wanna scream til the words dry out
So put it in all of the papers,
I'm not afraid
They can read all about it
Read all about it
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
I wanna sing I wanna shout I wanna scream til the words dry out
So put it in all of the papers,
I'm not afraid
They can read all about it
Read all about it, oh

Task 20: How the music industry uses social networking sites.

Artist use social networking sites as a way to promote their music as social networking sites are popular and a quick and easy way to create fans from all over the world. The most popular networking sites of today are facebook and twitter with over 250 million people having facebook and 11.5 million twitter users. Also myspace has also been a known way in which artists use to promote their new music mainly from back in the day as facebook and twitter have more of an popular fan base now in 2012. Artist use facebook as a way to connect and create with existing or new fans by creating an official page for the artist showing fans new material such as new songs, album and new music videos. Having a facebook page for an artist also allows the artist to connect with fans by fans being able to keep up with the artist by discovering whats new and current with the artist. Having a facebook page may also create new fans as existing fans have a choice of liking their page and other contents included on their page, also the chance to share new material. This then showed to friends and family which they then may decide to join.

Artist also use twitter as a way to create fans base, as twitter allows people to follow their friends, family, celebritity's and their idols. Twitter allows fans to connect with celebrities by being able to follow them and retweet their tweets and being able to see what the celebrity has been doing durring the day. Artist use this to their advantage as they use twitter to promote their new music and create new fans also they use twitter to support fellow artists.

An example of this is Wretch 32, Wretch 32 is a recent grime artist from Tottenham who realeased his first album single in January 2011:

Below are the link to his official facebook page, twitter and myspace:
http://www.facebook.com/welcomeback/requests/#!/wretch32music?fref=ts
https://twitter.com/Wretch32
http://www.myspace.com/wretchclart

To create tie ins with my artist and social networking sites to create a fan base, I would consider to create a twitter account for them as I personally feel that it is the most popular social networking site used today. I think that this is ideal as the genre of our artist is R&B soul, which is ideal to create a twitter account as it popular genre which would sure be able to create a surviving fan base.

Task 19: Emile's Sande's website.

Task 18: Three music videos that have influenced my ideas.

I like this music video 'Mad by Neyo' because I like the black and white effect which is used through out the music video as I feel that it creates an emotional tone and gives the song a deeper meaning. I also liked how at the beginnig of the music video before the track begins, the couple started arging to foreshad to the audience what the music video will be about.

I like this video the A team by Ed Sheeran as I like the use of editing. I like the different variety of editing used, even though it is a slow song. The editing in particular that I like is the shot when the focus is of the young girl sitting down and the use of the fast editing around her shows people walking pass her in different directions used with added speed to create an atmosphere that people don't recongnise or care about her.

Above is the music video to Eminem ft Rihannah- love the way you lie. I like this music video as I like the way how it portrays the couples differences through their rows and fights and how it shows how they first met. This music video has influenced ideas for our music video as we was thinking to portray a couples break up or flashback to the good times spent in their relationship.

Task 17: Orginial video to our song choice.

As there is no video to Emile Sande's version part 3, above is the original version to "read all about it" featuring proffessor green. Our video will differ from this one as there would be no male singer just 1 solo female singer. Our base tracks would definitley also be different as they would be set in different locations other than a warehouse, country side in the crack of dawn and an olden house as we are considering to set our base tracks in calm environmental places, which shows different nature such as parks and rivers. The storyline which also follows through through out the music video will not be about a little boy and his relationship with his father. The focus of our music video would be of the solo female artist possibly creating flashbacks within the music video to express to the audience what the song is about, reflecting to the lyrics.

Task 20: The effect of social networking sites

The social networking sites are more important now more than they have ever been for an artist, because it is a way for the artists to connect with the fans, and i think that is important because the fans want to know that they are cared for because they are the ones who need to go out and buy their albums and other items. Social networking sites are also ways to promote themselves and there products, millions of people use social sites like Facebook and twitter these days which means that they are appealing to the mass market to buy there albums.

If we look at an artist like Justin Bieber for example in nearly all of his tweets on twitter he either promotes himself, his products or one of his artists, they make out that they use the sites to connect to the fans but actually the majority of them take advantage of the sites and the fans, because at the end of every single tweet that promote there albums.

Task 7: Laura Mulvey

Laura Mulvey is an media theorist and she suggest gender representations are used to attain responses by male and female audiences. it's said the that males point of view, which is also called the 'male gaze'. Means That women are objectified in films/music videos and portrayed to suit male fantasies, for example: Slim well-shaped attractive women are on display with minimal clothing.

Mulvey also suggests that women are dismembered in today's media and only focused on their body parts rather than a whole. Whereas men are seen as a whole, which slightly approves Laura Mulvey's theory on the 'Male Gaze'

How the Music Industry uses Social Networking Sites

How the Music Industry uses Social Networking Sites

Social networking is used for nearly everything nowadays. However artists use social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter for promotional purposes. Sites such as Facebook can be used to open a page up. On this page they could get fans to like them. Also as millions of people go online, Not only fans can get involved with the move. Artists can promote there new material on Facebook and can be viewed by millions daily. This gives them a chance to almost break free and attract a wider audience. Another social networking sites that are very popular include 'Twitter'. Twitter is a whole different type of social networking in where celebrities and the normal public can almost mentally be with each other. The purpose of twitter is so you could 'follow' a friend or a celebrity and know what they are doing at any time of day. They use this as they could tell the fans some news about new material and the fans will almost instantly get a pop up.

Below are a few examples:

Professor Greens Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ProfessorGreen

Professor Green MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/professorgreen

Professor Green Twitter: http://twitter.com/professorgreen

With my artist I would like to only have a Twitter account. This is because I realize how much of the public actually use Twitter. I think it would be amazing for my artists to get the views and likes that they desire. I believe we would be able to advertise new material and also talk to the fans about what they would like themselves.

Skills Audit

Skills Audit

During the AS year when we did research many things have remained the same. During AS we was quite unsure how to work together and we used to get confused on the different information someone brings. However the team work has improved as everything and the work is fair and shared out quite freely. We had to do a lot of research of the type of things that a thriller film contains. We also had to note down the different effects of different objects. For example we had to think about and research on what a 'Knife' couple represent.

However in A2 now we are solely looking for different types of music genres to do our own. We as a group went through many different videos to find a perfect song we could use. However we also had to think about the target audience, roles in the video and more. Also we had to do research for the mice en scene of video. Like say if we was to do a pop song. We would've needed to research what things are usually in pop videos?
