Analyzed Previous A2 Music Video
Florence And The Machine -
This video I believe came out to be the strongest video that we watched in class. This is due to the editing and mice en scene.
I believe in relation to Andrew Goodwin that the video an Amplification of the song. This is because sometimes in the video the artist/performer is doing what they are saying in the lyrics. However many parts are not related to the lyrics however add layers of meaning to it. Also relating to Carol Vernallis's theory many edits are used in the video. Many fades and effects such as slow motion. All of these individual effects makes the video stand out to me. In the video there are many base tracks in which the video keeps repeating. I liked the look of this because the song they chose was quite fast. The fast edits and fades used worked well with the music. The theory by Laura Mulvey also comes into play here in this video. Many times there are close ups of just the singers face or lips or body. This is dismembering the singer and allows the viewer to almost feel like their inside the video.
What I Liked?
I liked many things about the video. I firstly think the video as a whole is excellent. I how they almost represented freedom and a wild side. This could again relate to Laura Mulvey's Theory as how men look at woman. In the video as it goes on it is almost as if the singer is breaking out of her shell. It could represent how almost a small, shy woman can break out of her shell and almost run free. The Edits used in the video i think are great. Mainly in where there is an effect of a Wolf running behind the singer then shortly after the singer running in the woods. This could again relate to the subject of freedom and almost a wild side.
What I Disliked?
There is really nothing that i dislike about the video as a whole. However i believe some camera angles and shot positions where a little off. For example in the part where She is standing back towards the wall and there is quite a lot of space above her and to the sides. I personally think the positioning could have been a little better. However as a whole I believe it is a great video.
