Task 7: Different genres.

GENRES:

    Different British Genres:

• Rock n Roll
• Hippie
• Indie
• Rn B soul.
• Grime
• Dubstep
• Pop
• Country

We can define different genres of music by the key elements used to create the music video through mise en scene. As the use of costume and location shown can help create and enhance a persific genre. For example a music video set in a basement, with little lighting with a group of men playing the guitar, in rough jeans and a loose t-shirt would suggest to the audience that its genre would be rock n roll.

• Jay Z ft Rihannah and Kanye West- Run this town
• By looking at the use of mise en scene I would say that the genre is rap but when hearing the song i would conclude it's genre to be rap.
• The setting and location of the video seems to create a dangerous amosphere of fire, weapons, chaos which is created an imagery similar to riots.
• The use of lighting creates a dark scary mood.
• The costume worn by Jay Z is a leather jacket and black shades. We could argue that the dark colours also may suggest that its genre may also be rock n roll.

 

BACK TO BRITISH.



Before we watched this video of Supergrass- Alright we was given the lyrics of this song. We then had to create a short pitch explaining our different thoughts we would use in order to create a music video supporting the given lyrics. My initial thoughts when first reading the lyrics where that the genre of the song was hippie and my chosen location to set the music video would be in the city of London, as in the lyrics it mentions "See our friends, see the sights" and Ithought London would be a good place to set it because of the famous sights such as London eye, Big Ben e.c.t. I also decided that the target audience for the music video would be 13+ to an urban audince and the structure of the music video would be amplification as the narrative of the music video was to look at 2 different young peoples life and how they experience it. As I decided to create this storyline I thought it was best that the artist/ group wasn't featured in my idea of this music video as the focus would be the contrast of the young peoples lifes. However after watching the orginal version of this song I gatherd that the music video  was disjuncture as the video had no relation what so ever to the lyrics. This task made me think that lyrics are not as important as it seems and everyone interupts the lyrics differently to others.
